About Us

Cambium is a growth stage start-up using technology to make it easy to access material we normally waste, turning salvaged lumber into Carbon Smart Wood™. We recently closed a $18.5M Series A funding round to make it easier to buy, sell, and move fiber across the supply chain. In addition to being named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies of 2024, we serve clients like Amazon, Equinox, Room & Board, and other leading brands in the construction, design, and furniture industries. It’s an exciting time of growth for Cambium, and we’re looking for ambitious, energetic people to join our mission.

About This Role

As a Senior Software Engineer at Cambium Carbon, you’ll be a key individual contributor shaping our platform, leading end-to-end projects, and delivering critical systems across our sustainability, supply chain, and fintech product lines. You’ll write maintainable, scalable code; design systems with performance and longevity in mind; and contribute meaningfully to architectural decisions. You’ll work closely with the VP of Engineering, Product, and the broader Cambium team, including customers, to bring solutions from concept to production. This role is ideal for someone with early-stage experience who can operate independently, mentor others, and contribute across a wide range of technical challenges.

What You’ll Do Here

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of major features and services across Cambium’s core platform—including data infrastructure, internal tools, and client-facing interfaces.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and performant code with an emphasis on long-term sustainability, security, and reliability.
  • Help define and evolve Cambium’s architecture and technical roadmap in collaboration with Staff Engineers and leadership.
  • Prioritize and resolve technical debt, manage cross-cutting concerns, and advocate for sustainable development practices.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Supply, Sales, and external partners to ensure engineering solutions align with user needs and business goals.
  • Educate and mentor team members and the broader organization on engineering practices, trade-offs, and system design.
  • Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and postmortems that support a culture of learning and exceptional execution.

Your Skill Sets and Capabilities Include

  • 6–8+ years of professional software development experience, ideally in startup or early-stage environments.
  • Strong backend engineering experience and fluency in designing secure, maintainable, production-ready systems.
  • Frontend experience with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript; capable of contributing significantly to UI design and implementation. A major strength would be the ability to lead frontend architecture and implementation.
  • Experience leading projects independently, balancing technical execution with delivery focus.
  • Ability to influence architecture and roadmap discussions with a pragmatic, systems-thinking approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to teach, explain, and collaborate across both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with (or interest in) Cambium’s tech stack: TypeScript/Node.js, Python, Postgres, React, and AWS.
  • Bonus experience: supply chain/logistics platforms, geospatial data systems, ERP/CRM tools, sustainability-focused technology, or fintech integrations.
